Fast Food Ban in South Los Angeles

Its official!! A ban on fast food chains in South L.A. The Los Angeles City council made a unanimous decision to ban new fast food restaurants in South L.A. for one whole year; the decision goes to the full council and the mayor this week. Led by councilwoman Jan Perry, the ban would "prevent fast-food chains from opening new restaurants in a 32 square mile area, including  West Adams, Baldwin Village and Leimert Park. The moratorium would be in effect for one year, with the possibility of two six-month extensions."
Councilwoman Perry's reasons are: first, small business owners and supermarkets have no way of competing in areas largely infested with fast food chains, burgers are prized over Mom's apple pie. Secondly, Perry cites concerns over "the health issues associated with fast food, such as diabetes and obesity."
First, I do agree with Councilwoman Perry there are too many fast food restaurants around that make it almost impossible for small mom and pop businesses to survive. I also agree that we need to take a more pro active roll in regards to our diets, after all eating burgers and fries a day does not keep the doctor away. However, I do believe that this is a free country and we are all free to do what we want to ourselves, we are free to make our own decisions. If I decide I want to eat a double quarter pounder with cheese, large fries, hot mustard sauce and a large coke who are you to tell me what I should eat. In the end it all comes down to individual preference. I like fires, you like asparagus, he likes chocolate milkshakes, she like protein shakes.

Until the next time... SH-SHOOT!
